Diploma of Fire Systems Design

OVERVIEW

NATIONAL DELIVERY

This qualification educates students in the development of technical designs and documentation for fire suppression systems and meets the requirements of the National Construction Code of Australia (NCC).

Efficient, safe and functional fire systems only occur when they have been well designed. Designing fire systems includes detailing the installation requirements, testing and commissioning schedules, quality control checklists etc, which are all aligned to Australian regulatory requirements.

DURATION & STRUCTURE

The hours to completion are dependent on the stream chosen. It is expected participants will be required to engage in learning for up to 24 months.

Fire Industry Training (FiT) delivers this course through distance learning using a combination of blended learning, workplace-based learning and submission of project work. Once all learning requirements have been achieved the student will be required to complete the associated assessment tools.

Entry Requirements

To be admitted into this FiT course, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • be either an Australian Citizen, or hold a valid visa that permits study and employment in Australia
  • be employed in a fire protection workplace that enables on-the-job experience (in areas such as design, documentation, using design software etc.) and access to a qualified workplace mentor
  • meet the minimum Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) requirements as outlined in the Australian Core Skills Framework, and demonstrate a foundational level of digital literacy to ensure their ability to successfully participate in online learning (D), these components combined may be referred to as LLND, throughout this document.

To complete training applicants will also need access to:

  • Computer with internet
  • Computer-aided design software
  • Zoom app
  • National Construction Code of Australia
  • Australian Standards (access available from FiT).

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING & CREDIT TRANSFER

Students with relevant industry experience or who hold one or more units of competency delivered in this course and who can demonstrate experience within the last two years, are encouraged to discuss the matter with FiT, as formal recognition may shorten the duration of the course.

Assessments

The Assessments are aimed at putting into practice the knowledge and skills you have gained during your training sessions. They form the evidence that will be generated by you, gathered by your Assessor and then used to make an overall judgement about whether you are ‘Competent’ or ‘Not Competent.

Evidence for assessment in this Qualification is gathered through a range of tasks, including:

  • Written questioning
  • Verbal questioning
  • Simulation/scenario (problem solving)
  • Simulation/scenario (role play)
  • Project.


Assessments may be conducted in your workplace or a simulated environment (ie training centre) at the time agreed to by you, your Assessor and your Supervisor (if applicable).

QUALIFICATION & STATEMENT

On successful completion of all requirements, graduates will be awarded a Qualification in CPC50520 Diploma of Fire Systems Design. Where the qualification is only partially completed, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for the units of competency achieved. Students completing CPC50520 will be issued a Qualification and Record of Results within 30 calendar days of completion.

This qualification offers pathways into industry specific short course or a higher level qualification designed to maximise employability.

FEES, PAYMENTS & GOVERNMENT FUNDING

FiT offers a range of accredited and non-accredited courses which do not attract government funding. Eligible individuals may attract industry or employee fund subsidies. As these arrangements vary from state to state and according to an individual’s circumstances, please contact FiT to discuss these options.


Full Qualification upfront payment upon submission of enrolment $1,500, with the balance paid in instalments at the commencement of each new unit.

RPL Application upfront payment upon submission of enrolment $1,500, with the balance paid throughout the year (individualised payment schedules will be provided)
